Ocean Signal RescueMe PLB or AIS hire
For sailors heading offshore for deliveries or racing, we strongly recommend hiring AIS beacons. We recommend the Ocean Signal RescueMe MOB1 and the Ocean Signal RescueMe PLB1. With the recent changes to racing rules, AIS and PLB devices are now compulsory for most offshore races. To help save you money, we recommend coordinating with your crew so that one person can organise the order, allocate the units, and make payment on behalf of the group.
For all race crews, we manage the HEX ID and the MMSI numbers to the race committee.

PLB Hire
For a single PLB hire, the cost is $88 (including GST, delivery, and return shipping) for the race.
We can offer better pricing on the PLBs when ordered together with AIS beacons — the more AIS beacons and PLBs included in the order, the better the PLB pricing becomes. To help save more money, we recommend coordinating with your crew so that one person can organise the order, allocate the units, and make payment on behalf of the group.
AIS Hire
For a single AIS hire the cost will be $125 (incl. GST, delivery and return) for the race.
An AIS is more expensive to rent compared to the PLB as we are able to rent the PLBs to bush walkers for winter adventures.
Hire more than one AIS?
The more you order the better the price.
2 x AIS will be $110 each (incl. GST, delivery and return) for the race.
3 or more will be $100 each (plus $20 – total freight fee)
More than 10 AIS and PLBs call for a quote.

* If you only need to rent the AIS Beacon for only the Sydney to Hobart the AIS will be a fixed price of $220.

In June 2025 the racing rules have been updated for safety equipment requirements in Category 1 and 2 offshore racing.

It reads….”An AIS personal crew overboard beacon (AIS MOB) and Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) shall be carried by each member of the crew.
Our suggestion is to hire or buy the RescueMe MOB1 AIS beacon.”
